SALVATION IS NOT BY WORKS

before the fact

iF i SAID TO ANYONE, HERE IS $50.00; YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WORK FOR IT NOR DO ANYTHING TO GET IT: there it is; just believe it, walk up here, take it and confess that I said so: it's /I already decided it, offered it, it's it's freely given without working for it. All you have to do now is take and receive it to be yours.

So, you accept my offer and you take it.

Then,

after the fact

after you take it, then I come back and say to you - you cannot keep this $50.00 unless you stop drinking and driving..........

no, no, no, no, no
that was not part of the deal.
you deceived me.
this $50.00 is mine now and I do not have to do anything for it - that, is what you said.

There isn't anyone who would not understand this.

(if) Salvation is not of/by works (before the fact)
(then) it is not of/by works (after the fact).

SALVATION IS NOT BASED UPON WORKS
YOU CAN'T GET IT BY WORKS
YOU CAN'T LOSE IT BY WORKS
SALVATION DOES NOT DEPEND UPON WORKS
SALVATION IS NOT PREDICATED/CONTINGENT UPON WORKS/IS NOT THE RESULT OF WORKS - NEiTHER TO OBTAIN TO NOR TO LOSE IT
